Come join us for a virtual archaeology presentation! Guest speaker Dr. Jim Gibb will discuss archaeological findings from author Mark Twain's study in New York, where he wrote many of his stories.

Samuel Langdon Clemens—Mark Twain—wrote in a distinctly American voice, rich in humor, gently critiquing hypocrisy, and richly descriptive of place and dialect. Twain penned much of his literary output in a small, wooden frame, octagonal study built in 1874 by his sister-in-law, Susan Crane, at her dairy farm outside of Elmira, New York. Archaeological field schools at Elmira College documented the location of Twain’s study and other aspects of Crane’s dairy farm in 1987 and 1988. This illustrated presentation revisits this long-forgotten project.

This presentation will be held live over Zoom. It will also be recorded and uploaded to the St. Mary's County Library YouTube channel.

If you would like to attend this event live and/or watch the recording, please register with an email address to receive the Zoom link the day before the event. The YouTube link to the recording will be emailed to everyone who registers for this program.
