Come join us for a virtual archaeology presentation! Guest speaker Dr. Jim Gibb will explain archaeological findings from a historical mill village in Harford County, MD.
Excavations beneath the floor of a kitchen addition to a house of uncertain date at Jerusalem Mills, Gunpowder Falls State Park, revealed more than decades of domestic debris, some dating to the early 19th century. A stone foundation clearly indicated an earlier building. When was it built, why was it replaced? Smithsonian Environmental Archaeology Laboratory teamed with members of the Friends of Jerusalem Mills and the Archeological Society of the Northern Chesapeake to find the answers. This illustrated talk introduces the preserved mill village of which the Lee-Pullen House is a part, the reasons for our investigation, our results, and our future goals.
