Join us to discuss a different cozy mystery on the 3rd Thursday of each month at the Leonardtown Library. Be ready to talk about a genre that puts us all at ease while keeping us on our toes.
This month we'll be celebrating Black History Month with NAACP Image Award Nominee Elise Bryant and her latest series, the Mavis Miller Mysteries. This series, her first in the genre, begins with It's Elementary (2024).
Between her feisty seven-year-old daughter, her job at a nonprofit, and the complexities of a multigeneration household, Mavis Miller has more than enough on her plate. So much so that no one is more surprised than Mavis when she caves to the PTA president's request for her to lead the school's brand-new DEI committee. She tries to convince herself that, as one of the few Black parents at this school, this is an opportunity for real change. Unfortunately, the principal's plans are already proving frustrating and then, after she spies Trisha, the PTA president, acting suspicious, he fails to turn up to work the next morning and hasn't been seen or heard from. Mavis is determined to get to the bottom of things with the help of the school psychologist (who has great forearms). Her plate's about to get even fuller with an investigation that will challenge her views on parenting, friendship, and elementary school politics.
