Join us to learn the basics of gardening and how to plant your seeds with the guidance of an experienced gardener!

Master Gardener Patrice will give us an overview of gardening, followed by a live interactive demo during which you'll be guided in planting seeds at home!

To prepare for the demo, you may wish to obtain the following items (cost is expected to be under $20 and items can be found at Lowes, or other home improvement or gardening stores).

  • Seeds (Organic or non-GMO recommended): Pick a total of three seed packets, one from each type below – you choose!!  Each costs approximately $2-3. Items in green are the seeds that will be used for the demo.
    • Herb:  Basil, Cilantro, Oregano
    • Vegetable:  Cucumber, Swiss Chard, Lettuce
    • Flower:   Sunflower, Zinnia, Marigold
  • Pots (recommended: Jiffy Windowsill Greenhouse)

    • Alternatives: nursery pots or existing pots you have at home, but please ensure they are cleaned and have drainage holes; Jiffy Pots 3-Round (make sure to get a plant tray and Seed-starting Soil (12QT Jiffy Seed Starting Mix)

  • Plant Labels ($2.87 at Lowe’s) and permanent marker

    • Alternative:  Wooden plant labels

To have on hand:

  • Toothpick
  • Plastic fork and spoon
  • Water (i.e. watering can with a small spout and/or a misting spray bottle, or a measuring cup
  • If you purchased pots, it makes it easier to have a scoop or a plastic cup to scoop out your soil, and garden gloves
  • Plastic table cloth to put on the floor near your planting workspace and a towel – this could get a little messy =)
  • Calendar to note your planting and harvesting dates
