Dr. James Gibb will discuss Governor Tasker's Mansion.
In the middle of the “Levittown” portion of Bowie in Prince George’s County is a stately 1747 mansion built for the royal governor Benjamin Tasker. The surviving building, now a museum, embodies many of the principles of Georgian architecture and landscapes eagerly espoused by the wealthiest and most powerful families in pre-Revolution Maryland. This illustrated presentation reveals some of the buildings, landscape features, and artifacts that no longer survive above ground.
