Karen Stone, Division Manager of the St. Mary's County Museums, will give a special seminar on our local history.
Maryland’s story begins on St. Clement's Island, where the Ark and the Dove landed in March 1634. The Island then changed hands a number of times until its final designation as a state park.
This talk will cover the Island’s role in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War, and World Wars I & II, and will include highlights of the colorful history of the Blackistone Lighthouse, including its destruction in the 1950's, and its eventual reconstruction in 2008.
This event is part of the Southern Maryland 250th Semiquincentennial, Maryland 250th, and America 250th celebration, commemorating Southern Maryland's contributions to our nation's founding.
