This film explores the history and impact of public libraries in shaping our lives. Join us for an engaging discussion about the incredible ways the library helps us learn, connect, and grow together.
Leonardtown's film discussion will feature Everlyn Holland, local historian; Dr. Janice Walthour, former library board member, educator, local historian, and activist; and Carolyn Guy, former library board member and current Friends of the Library volunteer to discuss women, segregation, and racial justice in the library movement.
The film, Free for All: The Public Library, tells the story of the quiet revolutionaries who made a simple idea happen – to create a place where anyone can enter and encounter a universe of ideas, free of charge. From the pioneering women behind the “Free Library Movement” to today's librarians who serve the public while navigating a world experiencing library closures and book bans, meet those who created a civic institution where everything is free and the doors are open to all.
