Migration is central to the story of humanity from its African roots to the modern-day. Learn about the special connections between Maryland, the mid-Atlantic, and The Gambia, and understand the ongoing struggles of Africans seeking new lives and opportunities.
Speaker - Bill Roberts, Professor of Anthropology at St. Mary’s College of Maryland
Bill Roberts is an applied cultural anthropologist with extensive experience in fieldwork across various regions of Southeast Asia, Central America, South America, West, Central, and East Africa. From 1996 – 2016 he led an international educational exchange program in The Gambia, West Africa, in addition to leading student field trips to Belize, Guatemala, Senegal, and Thailand. Roberts international education initiatives and extensive fieldwork earned him recognition as a Senior Fellow of the Society for Applied Anthropology and induction into The Gambia's National Order of the Republic. Since 2020 Bill, has focused on local collaborations with the Feed St. Mary’s County Food Bank and the St. Mary’s County Health Department.
