The U.S. Constitution has guided the American government for over 200 years. In this series, take a look at the Constitution, beginning with Article I, which establishes our legislative branch.
The U.S. Constitution, excepting the 27 amendments, consists of 4,408 words—about the length of a 15-page college term paper—2,294 (52%) of which are devoted to Article 1. Article I delineates the prerogatives, responsibilities, and powers of the U.S. Congress. This presentation explores Article I and the Convention discussions and ratification debates informing each of its sections.
