Meeting Room 1Learn how to locate and respectfully navigate historic gravesites and read historical grave markers. Special attention to local grave sites and Arlington National Cemetery.
St. Mary's County is home to numerous historical cemeteries. Reading these tombstones can be an important part of your genealogical research. Even when not looking for ancestors, exploring gravesites can teach us about those who came before us. In this session, we will learn the proper etiquette for exploring historical gravesites, what to look for on grave markers, and how to properly take etchings of tombstones.
We will also discuss how to look up grave registries at the state level. Special attention will be given regarding how to look up specific areas on internment at Arlington National Cemetary.
You will leave with a list of local, St. Mary's County cemeteries and the knowledge of how to explore them.
