The New York Times bestselling author of "Lilac Girls" and "Lost Roses" will join us virtually to talk about her newest novel, "Sunflower Sisters," which takes place in St. Mary's County!

For those of you who enjoyed Martha Hall Kelly’s previous novels, Lilac Girls and Lost Roses, you will be thrilled to meet Kelly virtually to discuss her newest novel Sunflower Sisters. In Kelly’s latest novel, we are introduced to Georgeanna Woolsey of New York City, the great aunt of Caroline Ferriday from Lilac Girls, who was a committed abolitionist and nurse.  Inspired by true accounts, Sunflower Sisters takes us to St. Mary’s County during the Civil War, where we also meet Anne-May, the mistress of Peeler Plantation, and Jemma, an enslaved girl on the plantation, during the early 1860s.

As you read Sunflower Sisters, you will learn how the lives of these three women intertwine.  They will cross paths in the most unexpected of circumstances.  Georgeanna Woolsey is a Union nurse who loathes slavery.  Jemma is an enslaved girl abused by her mistress.  Anne-May is the young mistress intent on living the pampered lifestyle of New Orleans high society from which she came.  As the Civil War leaves its ravaging effects on families from New York to Charleston, SC, these women will show just how much they are willing to fight for what matters most to each of them.

You will receive a Zoom meeting invitation link the day before the event.
