Join us for this virtual archaeology presentation! Guest speaker Dr. Jim Gibb will discuss the history of the Charlotte Hall Academy.
Not the earliest academy in Maryland—King William’s College (now St. John’s College in Annapolis) is the earliest by a century—Charlotte Hall Academy in Charlotte Hall brought advanced education to Maryland boys from the 1790s onward. Notable individuals have been associated with the school, some appropriately (actor Sylvester Stallone), others inaccurately (Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court Roger Taney). This illustrated presentation offers a history of this local institution assembled from archaeological and archival information.
