The Bill of Rights describes individual liberties that we have as Americans, but how can we interpret this 234-year-old document? To find out, join our presentation with Dr. Jim Gibb.

Some of the leading proponents of the US Constitution refused, in the end, to sign it. One major impediment: no enumeration of rights. Commitment to amending the Constitution with a Bill of Rights ultimately led to ratification. Where did the concept of a bill, or list, or rights originate? Whose rights? How do we interpret those rights, each of those first ten amendments constituting the Bill of Rights being brief and, in many respects, vague?

This presentation will be held live over Zoom. It will also be recorded and uploaded to the St. Mary's County Library YouTube channel.

If you would like to attend this event live and/or watch the recording, please register with an email address to receive the Zoom link the day before the event. The YouTube link to the recording will be emailed to everyone who registers for this program.
