Learn how collecting rooftop rainwater can help keep your garden beautiful!
University of Maryland Extension's Caroline DiGiovanni will teach you all you need to know to set up your own rainwater collection system at home! Rain barrels have numerous environmental benefits, including reducing flooding, erosion, and peak stream flow. Retaining stormwater runoff from rooftops can also save you money in the garden by reducing your water usage and gently fertilizing your plants! Learn the ins and outs of rain barrel installation and maintenance as well as rainwater use and safety considerations.
After the presentation, we will head to the Lexington Manor Passive Park Community Garden for a demonstration of how their rain barrels are put to use.
This program is completely free to attend, no purchase required. If interested, rain barrel kits can be pre-ordered from June 2nd - July 28th through the event registration portal. They will be available for pickup at the Community Garden after the event.
